We started life as an independent disrupter, and we remain one to this day. Founded by Colin Mustoe in 1976, we began with a firm belief that we could do things better by doing things our way. We believe the same today. Design styles, manufacturing techniques may change but the self-belief remains the same.

Being a family-owned business, we have the autonomy to invest in the business and to re-invest for continuous improvement. This allows us to have a positive impact on social mobility in the communities around our factories. We believe in our people and we invest in them. We also invest in ideas that drive the business forward and support the economic prosperity of the communities in which we live and work.

We’re proud of our roots. Established in the North of England — the birthplace of the industrial revolution — this is the place we were born, and it’s the place where we learned our craft. A century of workers, hard workers, has walked this path, we embrace it, and champion it.

We trust our instincts. All the tools are meaningless without an idea, you can’t make things that stand apart from others without ideas. This takes people, and a creative, collaborative culture. This is the stuff that will give us the edge, that makes us different.
