The Senator Group tackled the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge in April, with hopes of raising £5,000.
With an amazing 90 colleagues taking part, we are delighted to report that we’ve absolutely smashed our target, collectively raising more than £8,000! This will be split between our two annual charity partners, St Catherine’s Hospice and Derian House Children’s Hospice.
The Yorkshire 3 Peaks is a gruelling 24-mile hike covering Yorkshire’s 3 biggest peaks, Pen-y-Ghent, Ingleborough and Whernside.
When we started planning the event back in January, it was with the double aims of raising money for our charity partners, and supporting colleagues as part of our mental health and wellbeing programme.
Weekly training walks were led by Senator Employee Steve Crook and involved a range of terrains and difficulty levels. These walks offered colleagues the opportunity to ‘walk and talk’ (supporting our stress management initiatives) as well as prepare themselves for the big day.
Despite the training, our walkers were not prepared for weather! The day itself got off to a wet start, with heavy rain until about 2pm which made for a very muddy experience on the first two peaks! As the day progressed, however, the sun made an appearance and our walkers managed to dry off before tackling the 3rd peak - Ingleborough.
The last push across the finish line was made all the more rewarding by the promise of well-deserved fish and chips!
